Today, I reflect on the portraits with purpose in 2025 captured. As a result, I want to emphasize that my work has never been about creating beautiful images of women alone. It has always been about women and the stories they embody. The women I photographed this year arrived with stories to be told. Their testimonies included joy, grief, resilience, confidence, uncertainty, and hope. All characteristics of who they are today. My body of work created in 2025 is filled with transformations, revelations, laughter, vulnerability, and celebrations. Simultaneously, each portrait session was an invitation for women to pause, reflect, and reconnect with themselves in a world that rarely gives them permission to do so.
This year, the portraits I created at LaTonya Photography intentionally shared who these women are now. Not as their younger selves. Not as who they used to be. Rather, as the woman they have evolved into through life, loss, love, success, and survival. These portraits with purpose in 2025 were not about perfection. They were about presence and existing in photos. They captured women standing fully in their truth, owning their stories, and reclaiming visibility.

Unfortunately, I’ve met women who have never had a professional portrait taken solely for themselves. Excluding headshots, or family milestones, women seldom stand alone in portraits. That reality fuels my passion for this work. These portraits document, and celebrate women. Ultimately, allowing their love ones to remember their legacy. This belief sits at the heart of my 40 Over 40 Portrait Experience. The purpose of this project has always been clear: women over 40 matter. You matter when you feel invisible. When your bodies change, you matter. You matter when life shifts, careers evolve, relationships end, or children grow up. More importantly, if you struggle to recognize yourself in the mirror, you matter. These sessions exist to remind women that they are still beautiful, still relevant, still worthy of being seen in their current season of life.

Throughout portraits with purpose in 2025, women shared deeply personal stories. Some spoke of grief after losing parents, spouses, or loved ones. Others discussed surviving illness, navigating divorce, rebuilding confidence, or rediscovering joy. Many arrived unsure, even nervous, questioning whether they deserved this experience. Nearly all left standing taller, seeing themselves differently, and feeling affirmed in ways they did not expect.
One woman who embodies this journey beautifully is Victoria. She describes herself as happy, passionate, and positive. Now in her 40s, she feels more secure and confident in who she is than ever before. That confidence did not come from avoiding life’s challenges. It came from moving through them. Victoria has learned to prioritize rest and restoration. Her weekends center on recharging through music, leisure walks, and moments of quiet that help her reset from the demands of the workweek. When Victoria spends time with her girlfriends, joy takes center stage. Shopping, dining, laughter, and connection fuel her spirit. Three things consistently bring her happiness: her husband, a good cup of coffee, and listening to her favorite music. Although her military career has taken her around the world, the Maldives remains her dream travel destination. A fun fact many don’t know is that Victoria once placed third in a speech contest. Beyond her accomplishments, she holds a deep passion for training and mentoring others, finding fulfillment in helping people grow into their best selves.

Victoria’s portrait session reflected all of that depth. It captured confidence shaped by experience, softness rooted in self-acceptance, and strength earned through life. Her images are a reminder that beauty does not fade with time, it evolves. Her story represents so many women who participated in portraits with purpose in 2025, women who have lived full lives and deserve imagery that reflects their wholeness.
What makes these portrait sessions impactful is not just the final images, but the experience itself. From the first conversation, the goal is always intention. Women are encouraged to reflect on how they want to feel, what they want their portraits to say, and how they want to remember this season of life. The studio becomes a safe space, one rooted in trust, guidance, and care. This environment allows women to relax, soften, and show up authentically.

My clients later share how meaningful these portraits become over time. What begins as a photoshoot often turns into a visual legacy. These images serve as reminders during moments of doubt. They become proof of strength during difficult seasons. They preserve stories that deserve to be remembered long after memories fade. For some women, these portraits may be the last professional images taken of them, making their importance even greater.

My work continues to reaffirm why photographing women matter. You deserve to see yourselves reflected with dignity, beauty, and intention. Portraits with purpose in 2025 reinforced the need for imagery that centers women, honors their journeys, and validates their experiences.

As I look ahead, I remain deeply committed to this mission. The women who walk into my studio remind me why this work matters. Their courage, vulnerability, laughter, and resilience shape every portrait created. My hope is that each woman leaves feeling seen, empowered, and reminded of her worth.

If there is one truth that portraits with purpose in 2025 made undeniably clear, it is this: women matter at every stage of life. Their stories deserve space. Their images deserve intention. And their presence deserves to be honored—now, not someday.
